The mountaineering villages Schleching and Sachrang are deeply embedded in the Chiemgau Alps, south of Lake Chiemsee. The mountaineering villages are surrounded by a lovely pre-Alpine landscape with lush meadows, forested pre-Alpine peaks and the typical rugged peaks of the Northern Limestone Alps. The connecting element of both places is the most famous mountain of the Chiemgau: the Geigelstein (1,808m). The area around the Geigelstein is considered a particularly valuable mountain region of the Bavarian Alps due to its high biodiversity. The nature reserve of the same name was therefore established as early as 1991.
