Lake Taubensee

The Taubensee - the eye of the Chiemgau

High up in the middle of the Chiemgau mountains lies the Taubensee, which is 3.5 hectares in size and around 50 m deep . The deep blue lake, which is also often referred to as " the eye of the Chiemgau " and is one of the highest lakes in Germany , is located right on the German-Austrian border . Due to its high location, you can only get to Taubensee on foot or by mountain bike. Perfect to relax far away from everyday life and to experience the unique nature.

Refreshment in the cool water of the mountain lake

In summer, the mountain lake warms up to 24C and invites you to take a dip in the cool water. You can refresh yourself at several bathing spots around the lake after a pleasant hike or a sporty mountain bike tour. Afterwards, make yourself comfortable on one of the benches around the lake, enjoy the peace and quiet and the view of the deep blue water and enjoy the snack you brought with you at a picnic.

Hiking for connoisseurs

Would you rather have a "g'scheite" Almbrotzeit? Just a few minutes' walk from Taubensee is the Taubenseehütte , where you will be well supplied with a typical snack and regional delicacies . For those who would like to hike a little further, there is a circular tour over the Sauermöser Almen , which offers a wonderful view of the mountains and valley at the Sonnwendköpfl .

You can reach the Taubensee on tours of varying difficulty from Oberwössen , Schleching and Reit im Winkl . The various paths lead past numerous alpine pastures , where you can strengthen yourself along the way. You too can find your perfect tour to the Taubensee!
