Tour description:

The route starts in Rottau and leads through the valley of the same name up to the striking Gedererwand. The round route passes a fish pond and goes through quiet forest and woodland paths into the Rottau alpine pasture area. From here it becomes a bit more demanding. The initially wide paths give way to trails and narrow paths and become steeper. However, the ascent is definitely worth it, as spectacular views at the summit cross reward you for the effort. From the summit of the Gedererwand you have a breathtaking panoramic view over the Chiemsee and into the Chiemgau Alps. After a well-deserved break at the summit, the descent leads back along the same paths into the alpine pasture area and to the starting point.

Tips for the hike:

  • If you fancy stopping at a high-altitude alpine hut, you can reach the Steinlingalm by a detour (approx. 45 minutes)
  • For a snack with a view of the Gedererwand, the best place is on the return at the Rottau Weissenalm
  • Sturdy footwear is mandatory
