Description: The hike to the Hochgern (1748 m) via the Agersgschwendt-Alm (1040 m) and the Hochgernhaus (1460 m) is a particularly worthwhile undertaking.
From the town hall square, we walk past the village fountain with the statue of Knight Marquart across the village square, cross the historic arched bridge, turn right onto Alte Dorfstraße, and continue straight up Burgstraße at the right-hand bend. After a few steps, a memorial plaque on the garden wall of the former "Villa de Ahna" commemorates the composer Richard Strauss, who created his most important works here. Opposite, the castle towers high above us. The steeply ascending road quickly allows us to gain altitude, and we soon reach the hiking car park. From here, we follow the yellow hiking signs toward Hochgern. We cross the wide forest road and follow the signs toward Hochgern. The tour takes us uphill and thus reaches the Agersgschwendt Alm. We climb past this pasture and reach the Hochgernhaus. From there, it is about another hour and we reach our destination. From the summit, we have a view of Lake Chiemsee and the entire Chiemgau region. The same route takes you back to the valley.
