Tour description:
The large bike tour starts in Grassau at Kirchplatz. Begin your tour heading towards Moosbacher Straße. After about 0.6 miles, turn left off Moosbacher Straße (along the creek) towards Hindling. At Reiterhof Raab, keep left towards the moor educational trail and Rottau. On the mountainside, you can see from a distance (to the left) the Klaushäusl Museum “Salt & Moor.” To the right begins the moor experience path. Then turn right towards the water treading pool, Rottau sports field, and peat railway station (Bavarian Moor and Peat Museum).
After about 1.5 miles, you reach the Munich – Salzburg railway. Follow it to the right and continue on a narrow path through moor and forest landscape to the Bavarian Moor and Peat Museum, the Rottau peat railway station. Then go straight on a field path for nearly 1.2 miles. Now comes the only, but steep climb of the entire tour. Here you may even have to dismount. But the climb is quite short, and you will soon be rewarded on Westerbuchberg with a wonderful view. Also visit the well-known little church "St. Peter and Paul" from the early Middle Ages. Two inns invite you to stay. On the east side of Westerbuchberg, at the inn "Schöne Aussicht," you can take a shortcut back to Grassau – via Mietenkam, Grafing, saving about 1.8 miles. Your main tour leads down again from Westerbuchberg, across the state road to the Übersee district Bachham. Then continue via Almau to the Tiroler Ache. Follow it upstream to the right. On the beautifully developed Ache dam, after about 1.2 miles, you reach the district "Im Erlach." Here you have the last chance to shorten your tour a bit, going back to Grassau via Weiher and Grafing, saving approximately 1.8 miles. The main tour continues along the river. Via Nachmühle (from here it's only about 0.6 miles to the Achental Golf Resort) you reach Staudach. You drive under the large bridge and continue on the Ache dam until you reach the community of Marquartstein. At the Marquartstein fire station, turn right and pass a large bike shop to the federal road. Please cross this carefully and follow the markings "genial vital" towards Pettendorf, Piesenhausen, and Niederfels. There turn right and return to Grassau over beautiful field paths via Großrachl and Fünfeichenweg.
