Tour description:
The long bike ride starts in Grassau at Kirchplatz. Begin your route heading towards Moosbacher Straße. After about 1 km, turn left from Moosbacher Straße (along the creek) towards Hindling. At the Raab riding stable, keep left towards the peat educational trail and Rottau. On the hillside, you can see (to the left) the Klaushäusl Museum "Salt & Peat" from afar. The peat adventure trail starts on the right. Before Rottau, you have two options to continue: straight ahead through Rottau or turn right towards the water treading basin, Rottau sports field, and peat railway station (Bavarian Peat and Turf Museum).
If you head straight to the peat railway station, you save a few kilometers. The two variants, one through the flower village Rottau and the other via the sports field to the popular water treading basin, meet again at the exit of Rottau in front of the "Farbinger Hof." Through a shaded forest path, you reach the Munich – Salzburg railway line after about 1.5 km. Follow it to the right and continue on a narrow path through peat and forest landscape to the Bavarian Peat and Turf Museum, the Rottau peat railway station. A field path leads you straight for just under 2 km. Now comes the only, but steep climb of the entire ride. You might even have to dismount. But the slope is quite short, and you will soon be rewarded with a wonderful view from Westerbuchberg. Also visit the well-known small church "St. Peter and Paul" from the early Middle Ages. Two inns invite you to linger. On the east side of Westerbuchberg, at the inn "Schöne Aussicht," you can take a shortcut back to Grassau via Mietenkam and Grafing, saving about 3 km. Your long ride then leads down from Westerbuchberg, across the state road into the Überseer district Bachham. Continue via Almau to the Tiroler Ache river. Follow it upstream to the right. On the nicely developed Achendamm, you'll reach the district "Im Erlach" after about 2 km. Here is your last chance to shorten your route a bit, by returning to Grassau via Weiher and Grafing. This saves about 3 km. The long route continues always along the river. Via Nachmühle (only about 1 km from here to Golf Resort Achental) you reach Staudach. You then ride under the large bridge and follow the Achendamm again until you reach the municipality Marquartstein. At the Marquartstein fire station, turn right and pass a large bike shop on the way to the federal road. Please cross it carefully and follow the "genial vital" markings towards Pettendorf, Piesenhausen, and Niederfels. There turn right and return to Grassau via beautiful field paths over Großrachl and Fünfeichenweg.
