Tour description:
The long bike tour starts in Grassau at Kirchplatz. Begin your ride towards Moosbacher Straße. After about 1 km, turn left from Moosbacher Straße (along the stream) towards Hindling. At the Raab riding stable, keep left towards the moor nature trail and Rottau. On the mountain side, you can see from afar on the left the Klaushäusl Museum "Salt & Moor." On the right begins the moor adventure trail. Before Rottau, you have two route options: straight ahead through Rottau or right towards the water treading pool, Rottau sports field, and peat railway station (Bavarian Moor and Peat Museum).
If you go straight to the peat railway station, you save a few kilometers. The two options, through the flower village Rottau or via the sports field to the popular water treading pool, meet again at the exit of Rottau near the "Farbinger Hof." Through a shady forest path, after about 1.5 km, you reach the Munich – Salzburg railway line. Follow it to the right and continue on a narrow path through moor and forest landscape to the Bavarian Moor and Peat Museum, the Rottau peat railway station. A field path continues straight for just under 2 km. Now comes the only, but steep hill of the entire ride. You might have to get off here. But the climb is quite short, and you will soon be rewarded with a wonderful view from Westerbuchberg. Also visit the well-known small church "St. Peter and Paul" from the early Middle Ages. A guesthouse invites you to rest. On the east side of Westerbuchberg, at the guesthouse "Schöne Aussicht," you can take a shortcut back to Grassau – via Mietenkam and Grafing, saving about 3 km. Your long tour leads you down from Westerbuchberg again, over the main road to the Übersee district of Bachham. Then proceed via Almau to the Tiroler Ache river. Follow it upstream to the right. On the nicely developed Achendamm, you reach the district "Im Erlach" after about 2 km. Here you have the last possibility to shorten your tour slightly, namely via Weiher and Grafing back to Grassau, saving around 3 km. The long route continues along the river. Via Nachmühle (from here, it is only about 1 km to the Achental Golf Resort), you come to Staudach. You pass under the large bridge and follow the Achendamm until you reach the community of Marquartstein. At the Marquartstein fire station, turn right and reach the federal highway. Cross it carefully and follow the "genial vital" signs towards Pettendorf, Piesenhausen, and Niederfels. There, turn right and return to Grassau via beautiful field paths over Großrachl and Fünfeichenweg.
