Grassau local history

Grassau, over 1000 years old, is one of the oldest places in the Chiemgau-Area. The name "Grazzowe" is mentioned for the first time in a document book of the Salzburg archdiocese in 929. In 1218 the area was assigned to the newly founded diocese of Lake Chiemsee. Until the middle of the 18th century, the Counts Palatine Kraiburg-Ortenburg ruled in the Achental as secular lords. Today's community goes back to an administrative reform of 1818. After the Second World War, Grassau blossomed into one of the industrial centers of the region thanks to the newly founded Körting works and thousands of jobs. The market survey followed in 1965. Since 2005 at the latest, Grassau, together with eight other communities, has been writing international history as an eco-model region and is a future forge for renewable forms of energy.
