Tour description:

Out of the city and into the forest: This relatively short but very varied walk is an experience in every season and offers relaxation for body and soul.

The Traunsteiner Bürgerwald lies between the Röthelbachgraben and the Sparzer Graben. Due to the moraine bed, which is often impermeable to water, it is very rich in water, especially in the slope areas and creek gorges.

The Sparzer Graben, starting point of the tour, as well as the Steingraben were created by the deepening of the Steinbach in the terminal moraine of the Salzach Glacier. The near-natural ravine forests are valuable biotopes.

The stream bed of the Steinbach lies picturesquely under deciduous trees in the Bürgerwald. The flat shore area invites you to have a picnic and is a great place for children to play and discover. Among the stones in the stream bed you can find caddis, stone and mayfly larvae. Where they are, the water is clean and clear.

Beech, fir, maple, ash and elm are the most important tree species in the Bürgerwald. Again and again along the footpath, at places where damming layers come to the surface, there are spring outlets - sometimes overgrown by the rare giant horsetail - and small streams, which often also accompany the forest paths for a while. Larvae of the fire salamander can sometimes be found where these streams widen to form so-called pools. With a bit of luck, you can see the salamanders themselves at dusk on rainy days. In the higher parts of the forest, many birches, blueberries and rushes grow on the boggy ground.

The path leads through the Bürgerwald via Hütt and the Daxerau back to the Sparzer Graben, the starting point of the short hike.
