Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden

Salt mining has a centuries-long tradition in Berchtesgaden . White gold has been mined there in the tunnel since 1517. In the visitor mine right next to the tunnels you can find out more about the work underground on exciting sightseeing tours . The Berchtesgaden salt mine, which was redesigned in 2007, presents salt mining and its history with modern audiovisual representations, 3D animations and laser shows. Highlights of this museum experience are the ride on the visitor mine railway , the two mountain railway slides that are up to 40 meters long and the raft ride across the underground Spiegelsee .
The tour through the world beneath the surface lasts a good hour . However, you should allow enough time to change into the overalls that are to be worn during the visit to the mine before the actual experience.
The salt experience is rounded off with a stroll through the salt shop , where all kinds of table salt are offered. A practical and original souvenir from the region can be found here for those staying at home.
