Tradition is an affair of the heart

Living customs: Home is where the heart is. Customs and traditions are lived with all our hearts in Inzell. Festivals accompany the seasons and we celebrate together with the visitors in Bavarian: Pfingstroas, village festival, park festival and Michaeli ride. Every week there are cozy traditional festivals or brass music evenings at the town hall square and the spa gardens of Inzell.

Inzell local history

The actual founding of Inzell goes back to the Christianization by St. Rupert. In the valley of the Rote Traun, cells were built, including the "inner cell", with the permanent residence of the missionary monks. The Augustinian canons resided in the Hofmarksitz Schloss Inz`l (1140 to 1811). From 1177 to 1803 Inzell was under the sphere of influence of the monastery of St. Zeno near Reichenhall. Salt transport and timber industry determined the life of the people of Inzell for centuries. From the 16th to the 18th century the mining of lead and zinc ore played an important role. The name of the district "Schmelz" still reminds of this today. With the rediscovery of the Frillensee for ice skating (1959/60) and the construction of the ice stadium (1963-1965), the tourist importance of the place grew - as a world-renowned winter sports center and a popular holiday destination all year round.

Inzell personalities

One of the most distinguished trainers in German ice skating comes from Inzell: Markus Eicher. As a base coach in Inzell and national coach, he was jointly responsible for promoting the German speed skating elite. The mayor, SPD member of parliament and high-ranking sports official Ludwig Schwabl (1921-2007) earned great merit for the development of Inzell into a center of German speed skating.
